Examples of sustainable and environmentally-friendly practices for residential properties may include:
- Commitment to efficiency and energy use reduction through solar panels, high efficiency appliances, or other methods
- Reducing transportation emissions (use of public transportation, cycling, and/or electric vehicles)
- Promoting diverse local ecosystems (planting native plants, removal of invasive plant species, use of natural lawn practices, providing water for wildlife)
- Water conservation or reduction of stormwater runoff through use of water conserving faucets, utilization of the Tinley Park water portal, rain barrels, bioswales, rain gardens, permeable pavement, or other methods
- Commitment to waste reduction (recycling, composting, purchasing eco-friendly
products)
Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
- Environmental impact
- Innovation and creativity
- Community engagement, outreach, and/or visibility
- Sustainability and longevity
Applications due by August 31. Selected award recipients will be announced in Fall 2025.
